Impeachment

Obama Must Learn From Kucinich's Election Theft Impeachment

joe's picture

Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) has introduced 35 articles of impeachment against George W. Bush. Two of the articles deal with the fact that Bush was never elected, and in fact stole the election of 2004 in Ohio. They should serve as a cautionary notice to the Obama campaign that this year's election could also be stolen.

Impeachment "Is Already Beginning" An Analysis Of Kucinich's Impeachment Case (Elizabeth Holtzman)

The House should commence an impeachment inquiry forthwith. In fact, in a sense, it is already beginning. Rep. Kucinich introduced the articles, the House has referred them to the Judiciary Committee and the Senate Intelligence Report goes a long way toward furnishing the investigative work Congress needs to do in the course of impeachment, at least as regards the run-up to the war (Congress should also look at other serious abuses of power, including President Bush's refusal to obey duly enacted laws, as evidenced by hundreds of signing statements, his violations of the laws on wiretapping and mistreatment of detainees).

Impeachment is the Only Way They Don’t Get Away With Torture

United States Constitution, Article 2, Section 2: The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to Grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.

Cheney lawyer claims Congress has no authority over vice-president

nadia's picture
The lawyer for US vice-president Dick Cheney claimed today that the Congress lacks any authority to examine his behaviour on the job.

The exception claimed by Cheney's counsel came in response to requests from congressional Democrats that David Addington, the vice-president's chief of staff, testify about his involvement in the approval of interrogation tactics used at Guantanamo Bay.

Ruling out voluntary cooperation by Addington, Cheney lawyer Kathryn Wheelbarger said Cheney's conduct is "not within the committee's power of inquiry".

Torturers in the White House: Why Is This Story Being Ignored?

By Ruth Conniff, The Progressive. Posted April 17, 2008.

We now have confirmation that the President of the United States gave the OK to torture. Where is the media? Where are the Democrats?

The biggest news of the last week went virtually uncovered by the mainstream, print media. ABC News first reported last Wednesday that top Bush Administration officials, including Dick Cheney, Condoleezza Rice, John Ashcroft, and George Tenet, Colin Powell, and Donald Rumsfeld met to discuss which particular torture techniques should be used against Al Qaeda suspects in U.S. custody.

Tell John Conyers that it's time to stand up for the country and the Constitution

nadia's picture

The news that senior Bush administration officials not only approved the use of torture but actually micromanaged the application of it should be the last straw for dithering Democrats in the House of Representatives.

We have known for years that the president and the vice president approved war crimes, including torture, on the basis of legal opinions provided by Justice Department functionaries authorizing the president to break any law in the name of national security. Now we know that Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice and other top officials dictated specific combinations of outlawed interrogation techniques—including waterboarding and physical beatings—for specific prisoners.

Conyers: 'If Bush Goes to Iran, He Should Be Impeached'

joe's picture
John Conyers just finshed up a panel with John Cole and Christy Hardin Smith at Take Back America with words that were heartening to everyone made just a wee bit uneasy by the recent retirement of Admiral Fallon and the implications it might have for war with Iran:

"If Bush Goes Into Iran, He Should Be Impeached," said Conyers.

Conyers also said that with regard to FISA, the House was going into conference with the Senate. That the Senate wanted to give retroactive immunity to the telecoms, and that the House is saying "let a judge decide." But he also made the point that it wasn't just the Republicans who were the problem:

"There were about seventeen Democratic senators that bought into that business. We need to straighten them out," he said.

Boulder Colorado joins over 90 cities asking for Impeachment.

nadia's picture

“BE IT RESOLVED that the Citizens of Boulder and the Boulder City Council believe that there is sufficient evidence to commence hearings in the House of Representatives that may lead to impeachment of either or both President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard B. Cheney.”
In other words, the resolution simply urges that the House of Representatives perform its constitutional duty to investigate allegations of violations of our Constitution.
Boulder is hardly unique in this. More than 90 other cities ranging from Detroit and Cambridge to Chapel Hill, N.C., and Brattleboro, Vt., have taken action, many much stronger than what we’re asking. National public opinion surveys find that more than half of American voters believe that both Bush and Cheney have committed serious crimes against the Constitution.
This is not just a liberal sentiment. Among others, Bruce Fein, a constitutional scholar who served as associate deputy attorney general under President Ronald Reagan, insists that the concerns are serious enough to be investigated.
